Introduction to shipping industry, Familiarization with deck department of the ship, Deck safety, Navigation, Metrology, Watch keeping duties, Search & Rescue operations, Flag Signals & codes, Life saving appliances, Survival at Sea, Swimming, Personality development, English & Computer etc.
Student after successfully accomplishing the training program will be awarded with the course certificate, by the academy approved by Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Surface and Transport Govt. of India. In inclusion to the above candidate will also receive INDOS and foreign CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate).
Candidate after successfully finishing the pre sea training course has to sail for minimum period of 18 months in order to appertain for officer COC assessments/ exams.
Merchant navy General Purpose Rating (G.P. Rating) candidates perform tasks related to Seamanship, Cargo handling, Maintenance work on deck, Operation and maintenance of Machinery. The training program is designed for the candidates who are desirous of perusing career in merchant shipping and ought to work in Operation and maintenance category.
The course duration is 6 months long. It is a presea training course. GP Rating course focuses on training cadets in two main roles of shipping sector- Deck crew and engine crew. Deck and Engine Rating programs are available as Individual courses. But GP Rating combines them both and trains candidate Deck as well as Engine Rating aspects!
As part of the course, cadets will b given knowledge and skills related to topics like- ship machinery, swimming, fire prevention and safety technology, first AID, basics of sea, ship familiarization faring etc.
The basic eligibility that every candidate should fulfil in order to get into a GP Rating program are:
The candidate should be of age ranging from 17 years to 25 years at the commencement of the program.
The eyesight of the candidate should be a 6/6. The candidate should not suffer from colour/night blindness.
The candidate should be physically fit to carry out the operations at the sea efficiently.
They must have passed 10th with minimum qualifying marks that are aggregate of subjects including Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology as a part of their core subjects.
